The Shelby Garden Walk now features 7 beautiful gardens! Tickets are available at the Shelby Library and Parks and Rec for $10. The day of the Walk (July 16th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.) $12 tickets can be purchased at Heritage Garden until 1 p.m., and till 4 p.m. at the Shelby Library.
The Bi-annual Shelby Garden Walk is the club’s major fundraiser to support the maintenance of the Heritage Garden for the enjoyment of are residents and their guests.
After researching ways to save the monthly Shelby Township Electronics Recycling Program, members of the township’s Solid Waste and Recycling Committee and officials from GreenTech Recyclers found common ground to continue the long successful program. 
Under the new agreement between the SWARC and GreenTech, the event will once again be open to everyone, irrespective of the community in which they live from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. June 25th at the Shelby Township Hall at 52700 Van Dyke Ave.
The new terms of the collection, which occurs the final Saturday of every month, have each car dropping off items paying a $5 fee with $1 of that fee going to the local charity staffing the collection. The fee also includes up to one Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors and televisions. Additional CRTs can be recycled for $10 per CRT.
“Everyone involved in the program or anyone who has used the program knows that it is very important to our residents and community,” said Township Trustee Paula Filar, who serves on the SWARC. “And I’m very happy to announce the event is back open to all communities and will allow us to collect even more electronics that would otherwise pollute our environment.”
The 21st Annual Shelby Township Kids Summer Olympics will be held Saturday, July 9th at Whispering Woods Park.
This free event is for boys and girls ages 3-12, and includes a 40 yard dash, hurdles, a baseball toss, disc toss, broad jump, long jump and obstacle course. Awards will be given for male and female winners in each age group for each event. Participation ribbons for all who compete.
Ages 3-5 check in at 9:45 a.m., 6-8 at 10:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. for ages 9-12. Register at event.

Are your kids looking for something fun to do this summer? Well if so, we are still accepting registration for our Summer Recreation Day Camp for those entering grades 1-6 in the Fall of 2016.
The camp will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. starting Monday, June 20th through Friday, August 12th at Duncan and Monfort Elementary.
Cost per family is $250.00 for the 1st child, $150.00 for the 2nd, and $85.00 for each additional. Non-residents must add $25.00 per family to the above rates.

Trinity Community Care is hosting its ‘I Care 4 Healthcare’ 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser to benefit its free medical and dental clinic for the uninsured and under-insured in metro Detroit at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 at Crossfit Edge 94 at 4775 25 Mile Road.
The annual 5K is the primary fundraiser for Trinity Community Care in its mission of serving Shelby Township and its neighboring communities.
“It is an honor to have Trinity Community Care within our borders, and the work the Trinity Community Care staff does for others is a great example for all of us,” said Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis, who sits on the Trinity Community Care Board of Directors.
The walk/run is the third annual fundraiser for Trinity Community Care, and will feature medals for the top three male and female runners, a raffle, BBQ, and goodie bags for all participants post-race. The course will follow the Macomb Orchard trail.
Trinity Community Care’s vision is “strong and healthy individuals, families and communities through access to care.” Their services are delivered with unconditional Christian love. They strive to do this in a manner that creates positive health outcomes for their patients in the township and throughout the entire Metro Detroit Area.
Supervisor Stathakis is encouraging people of all ages to come out and join him in supporting this worthy cause.
“Health insurance is a serious barrier for many struggling people in dire need of medical care.” Stathakis said. “Any opportunity to contribute to providing health services such as those that Trinity Community Care administers can improve the lives of many.”
The event will also be providing hot dogs, ice cream, a bounce house, and much more for its participants to enjoy.
“This fundraiser is a great way to engage and unite the members of our community to make a positive difference while also having a good time with family and friends,” Stathakis said.

This is a perfect opportunity to sell clothes, baby accessories, or large toys that your children are no longer using. It’s also a great chance to buy affordable and gently-used items from your neighbors.
This event is open to individuals and families ONLY – NO VENDORS.
The entry fee is $1 per adult, cash only. No strollers are permitted before 11:00am to save on space. Representatives from Brooks Brewing in Shelby Township will be at the Shelby Library (51680 Van Dyke Ave.) on Wednesday, April 13 at 8:00pm. This informational session will cover the basics of homebrewing, including the ingredients required and the art of the process. They will also share how Brooks Brewing does it.
This is a FREE event with no registration required.
The Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center is hosting their annual Maple Syrup Program in 4 separate sessions on Saturday, April 9 at 11:00am, Noon, 1:30pm, and 2:30pm.
This hands-on educational program will teach you and your family about the natural maple-making process. You will learn how the sugar “gets into” the tree, how to recognize a maple tree, and about the tapping process; there will also be an 
opportunity to use an old fashioned brace and bit, but, out of respect to the local nature, the exercise will not be done using a real tree.
At the end of the program, participants will gather around a fire to experience the “boiling down” process which makes the syrup. Then, visitors will be served a bowl of ice cream with a warm maple syrup topping.
Pre-registration is required for this event and must be done in person. The cost is $3 per person age 4 and up. Due to the popularity of this event, early registration and payment is recommended!
